1970s Hagstrom Jimmy D'Aquisto Archtop Tobacco Sunburst (Made in Sweden) (w/ HSC)

A highly desirable model rarely seen outside of collector circles and with an estimated number of 480 produced in the initial run, the Hagstrom Jimmy D'Aquisto is one of the most revered archtop guitar models in existence. A jazz guitarist, D’Aquisto was an apprentice to perhaps the greatest archtop maker of all time, New York’s John D’Angelico, from 1952 until the luthier’s death in 1964. The Hagstrom Jimmy was D'Aquisto's first venture into his own archtop design.

These models are exceptional in their design, construction and sound, featuring a 16" body that is very comfortable being slightly thinner than most jazz box guitars. The top is carved spruce with birch back, sides and neck and the guitar has a 25" scale length. Iy's extremely resonant acoustically and sounds great plugged in! In good condition these guitars can now fetch up to 5 figures, however this particular Jimmy is in player's grade condition which we've reflected in the price. The following modifications have been made to the guitar over it's life span;

- Pickups swapped out for Guild USA humbuckers; top slightly modified to accomodate triple screw adjustment

- Bass side partially rebound, no dot markers installed

- Bridge replaced, tailpiece remains factory original

- "Tone" switch added on upper bout - contains 3 different tone settings (quite fun actually)

- Some replaced screws here and there

- Two small studs installed on backside of neck joint

Aside from these modifications, the guitar maintains much of it's originality and is solid as a rock with a wonderful action and playability. We've just given it a full service and whilst it would be a good candidate for restoration, it's a wonderful instrument as it is. Comes with a vintage hard case.
