1974 Greco EG-650B Les Paul Custom Black (MIJ Matsumoku)

Made in the Matsumoku factory in Japan in 1974, the EG series Les Pauls represent Greco's earliest Les Paul style guitars, this one being a copy of a Gibson Les Paul Custom and one of the higher grade models in the EG lineup. Interestingly these models feature a chambered carved top (yes, mostly hollow!) which gives the instrument a very unique sound and feel. Pancake mahogany body and a slim yet not too skinny maple neck. Being a high end model, the EG-650B features all gold hardware, Greco embossed Maxon humbuckers, triple binding on the body and headstock and a set neck construction with a volute on the headstock for added structural stability.

The all maple neck features a bound and very dark rosewood fingerboard with "fretless wonder" style frets for those who are fans of the playing style of the original Black Beauties. Frets are healthy at about 80% life with minimal pitting. The neck is typical slim taper style and feels excellent in the hands. Split diamond inlay on the headstock to trick fans at a distance and original Greco star tuners are intact and in great shape.

The original Maxon pickups are adorned with Greco embossing, a feature that is quirky and rare to see on these early 70s Greco Les Pauls. Tone wise, you can expect typical mid-range output humbucker tones here and classic Greco sounds. Great definition, balanced output, plenty of bark if you need it and plenty of clean goodness for all the jazz players.

The guitar is in great condition for its age with the standard amount of wear and tear, there are some scratches and signs of usage around the body of the guitar, however all original parts with no structural cracks or breaks. There is some finish shrinkage which has caused some light lacquer checking, but this is purely cosmetic and is no threat to the integrity of the instrument. This guitar has been professionally set up with 10-46s and a full service.
