Made in 1990 in the Fujigen factory in Japan, this SS-85S falls under Greco Japan's line of SG copies, designated the "SS" series, made from 1977 through to 1996. The SS-85S is the only triple pickup, P90 equipped SG in Greco's lineup, making it quite a rare and desirable model - and one that doesn't crop up too often! A bevelled mahogany body houses the triple set of P90s and a 1 piece mahogany neck with a rosewood fingerboard offers up excellent playability. For the trainspotters among us, the batwing guard differs slightly from traditional Gibson design in that it doesn't extent underneath the tune-o-matic bridge. Neat!

The 1 piece mahogany neck has been expertly carved to a very comfortable traditional slim taper profile that will see Gibson players feeling right at home on this neck, with the essence of 60s Gibson neck profiles being accurately represented here. 22 wide oval frets offer comfortable playability with minimal pitting and wear evident with approximately 90% life left. The nut has been replaced at some point with a standard bone nut.

Being a triple pickup guitar, this SS-85S has the added fun of two out-of-phase P90s together in parallel, making for some excellent tonal versatility and opening up the sonic palette of the guitar immensely. Overall, the pickups offer up some serious P90 bite with plenty of mid-range and top end on tap here. Electronics have been serviced and are all original.

Professionally serviced and setup with 10-46s, the guitar is playing nicely with a straight neck, low action and spot-on intonation. In 100% original condition aside from a replaced nut and a singular replaced knob (which we left because we loved how quirky the replacement was), the guitar is free from any structural issues, although the guitar does exhibit some lacquer checking, cracks and chips throughout. Overall the condition of the guitar is very good with the wear being honest in nature.
