A true titan of late-'70s American bass design, this 1979 Peavey T-40 hails from the company’s original factory in Meridian, Mississippi – representing the earliest run of one of Peavey’s most iconic and overbuilt instruments. These basses have earned cult status among players and collectors alike for their rock-solid construction, wide tonal palette, and unapologetically industrial design. This particular example features a five-piece ash body with a sleek satin finish and weighs in at a meaty 4.9kg, giving it the sustain and authority that T-40s are famous for.

The neck is a two-piece bi-laminate maple construction with a matching unbound maple fingerboard and classic black dot inlays. It has a medium "D" profile with a high-gloss finish, and it feels comfortable and fast across the hand despite its vintage heft. Specs include a 34" scale length, 9.5" fingerboard radius, 43.5mm nut width, and 20 medium jumbo frets with moderate wear and approximately 75% fret life left. It’s all anchored by Peavey’s unique metal nut and sturdy hardware, ensuring rock-solid tuning stability and long-term durability.

Electronics are where the T-40 gets truly weird and wonderful: two chrome-rimmed ferrite humbuckers (affectionately known as "toasters") deliver a wide frequency response, from deep P-style thump to biting single-coil snap, thanks to the clever use of phase switching. With pickups rated at 5.6kOhms (neck and bridge) and a combined middle setting of 2.8kOhms, you can coax everything from vintage soul to punk growl out of this beast. 

In great condition for its age, the bass is free from any structural issues or major wear and tear. A few dings, dents and scratches here and there are the worst of the wear. Aside from a few replaced screws and a replaced mini-switch, the bass is 100% original and in great shape. It has been professionally serviced and setup with 45-105 strings for optimal playability and has a smooth and low action with no dead spots. The neck is straight and the bass is perfectly intonated.
