1987 Yamaha RBX5 5 String Active EQ Bass Guitar (w/ OHSC)

Made in Yamaha's Taiwanese factory in the late 1980s, the RBX5 is part of the RBX family of basses first introduced in 1987 as a modern, heavily contoured series of instruments equipped with active or passive pickups, as well as a range of colour, fret and pickup configurations. Best described as a 4 string bass with an added lower string, the RBX5 retains a regular scale and size neck with closely spaced strings, much like a Fender Bass VI. This means super fast and comfortable playability, narrow nut sizing for fast note runs and plenty of thick, low end goodness in a more compact form!

The 34" scale neck has a very comfortable modern D profile with a rosewood fingerboard and 22 medium frets. Finished in gloss black, it has a 42mm nut width and brass plated heavy duty tuners with double string trees to keep the break angle nice and tight. Fret life is at a solid 95% with almost no wear at all.

Equipped with an aftermarket set of Bartolini pickups linked to a 9V active preamp with 2 band EQ, this bass packs a serious punch. Controlled by a master volume, 3-way switch and a stacked EQ pot with boost and cut ability, the tonal range on offer here is immense. The Bartolinis sound like Bartolinis (excellent) and the active preamp offers up huge low end with articulate mids and highs.

In great condition for its age, the gloss black finish shows moderate signs of wear with plenty of swirling and scratches present, however all is honest wear and non-structural. Professionally setup with Dunlop 45-130s, playability is smooth with a nice low action with no buzzing or dead spots. Comes with its super rare original fitted case (sticker bombed and heavily worn)!
