Representing a distinctive and relatively uncommon variation on Fender’s classic ’62-style Stratocaster, the ST-62ASH combines familiar vintage-inspired Fender styling with a selection of modern appointments unique to this Japanese-market model. Built by Dyna Gakki in Japan in 2012, this example features a beautifully figured ash body finished in transparent red, allowing the natural grain of the timber to remain visible beneath the finish. Paired with a matching Transparent Red headstock, rosewood fingerboard and classic white appointments, it offers a striking alternative to the more traditional ST-62 configurations of the period.

The ash body provides excellent resonance and sustain with the solid, substantial feel associated with ash-bodied Fender instruments. Its maple neck is paired with a dark rosewood fingerboard featuring traditional white dot inlays, retaining the familiar early-’60s Stratocaster aesthetic while offering considerably more contemporary playability. A 25.5" scale length, comfortable modern C profile, 10" fingerboard radius and 22 wide oval nickel silver frets make this a notably more modern-feeling instrument than a traditional vintage-spec ’62 reissue. A 43mm bone nut provides comfortable room across the fingerboard, while the satin polyester neck finish feels smooth and natural in the hand.

Electronics consist of three Fender ST ceramic single-coil pickups, measuring 5.2kOhms at the neck and 5.3kOhms at both the middle and bridge. The neck pickup provides a rounded and articulate response, the middle offers plenty of clarity and chime, while the bridge delivers a brighter voice with an immediate attack that responds particularly well to overdrive. Combined with the traditional five-way selector, the three pickups cover the complete range of familiar Stratocaster sounds, from warm neck tones and glassy cleans through to hollow intermediate-position quack and cutting bridge sounds.

Presented in mint condition, this example has been exceptionally well preserved with virtually no signs of use throughout. The guitar has been professionally setup with D’Addario 10-46s and plays beautifully with comfortable low action, excellent intonation and stable tuning throughout. A particularly uncommon Fender Japan configuration, the ST-62ASH stands apart with its figured ash body, Transparent Red finish, matching headstock and modern 22-fret specification, offering a distinctive combination of vintage-inspired Stratocaster styling and contemporary playability. A superb Japanese-made Fender and a difficult model to come across in this condition. Comes with its original gig bag!
