2020 Fender Limited Edition HM Strat Ice Blue Super Strat (MIJ)

Originally produced at the Fujigen factory in Japan from 1988 - with a U.S. counterpart released around 1990 - the HM (short for Heavy Metal) Strat was a significant departure from Fender’s traditional designs. It showcased a basswood body, slender neck, 24 large frets, Kahler locking tremolo, and Fender's first ever sculpted neck joint for improved accessibility to the highest frets – a characteristic that has now become standard on American Ultra and American Acoustasonic guitars. A stylized STRAT logo – the very first use of the abbreviation on a Fender instrument – served as a finishing touch. In 2020, Fender Japan released a limited run of reissue HM Strats with slightly differing specifications whilst maintaining exceptional build quality and the heart and soul of the original HMs. This particular example is minty fresh and completely unplayed - still sporting the original protective plastic.

The neck is a razor sharp carve of maple akin to many 80s Ibanez and Charvel carves, specifically a very slim C with a thick rosewood fingerboard and large frets with no playwear whatsoever at 100% fret life. Nice and straight with no dead spots, this neck is a serious shredder. 

Equipped with a different loadout to the original HM Strat, the 2020 reissue opted for a specifically voiced set of "Heavy Metal" pickups in the bridge with a coil split routed to a mini toggle. The bridge humbucker is well voiced for modern and vintage heavy metal tones, with plenty of beefy bass, cutting mid-range and sharp highs. Paired with clean and spanky single coil tones, The dynamic pickup selection of this HM Strat allows for versatility across all genres. All original wiring, pots and knobs are present here and working perfectly.

In exceptional all original condition, this guitar will suit any collector or HM Strat enthusiast alike. Completely unused and in mint condition, the Ice Blue finish is bright and vibrant with no fading present, and no chips, dings or scratches. All original Floyd Rose Special hardware is present and in perfect condition. Professionally setup with 10-46s, it's ready to shred and comes with a Fender gig bag.
