2020 Fender Player Stratocaster HSH Buttercream, Pau Ferro (Made in Mexico)

A versatile modern interpretation of the Stratocaster, the Player Stratocaster HSH combines classic Fender styling and construction with a higher-output pickup configuration designed to cover considerably more ground than a traditional three-single-coil setup. Built in Ensenada, Mexico in 2020, this example features a solid alder body finished in distinctive Buttercream, contrasted against a black pickguard and white pickup set for a particularly striking appearance. The HSH configuration gives the guitar a more muscular tonal character while retaining the familiar balance, comfort and ergonomics of the Stratocaster platform. At 3.8kg, it has a reassuringly solid and well-balanced feel in the hands.

The maple neck is paired with a Pau Ferro fingerboard featuring traditional white dot inlays and Fender’s comfortable Modern C profile, offering an immediately familiar feel suited equally well to chord work and lead playing. A traditional 25.5" scale length is combined with a 9.5" fingerboard radius and 42mm synthetic bone nut, providing a comfortable middle ground between vintage Fender geometry and modern playability. The 22 medium jumbo nickel silver frets offer plenty of room for clean bends and vibrato without feeling excessively large under the fingers, while the satin urethane neck finish provides a smooth and fast feel in the hand. Fret life is 99% here with virtually no signs of playwear.

Electronics consist of Fender Player Series Alnico 2 humbuckers in the neck and bridge positions, measuring 7.2kOhms and 7.8kOhms respectively, paired with a Player Series Alnico 5 single coil in the middle measuring 5.9kOhms. The neck humbucker delivers a warm, full-bodied voice with plenty of clarity, while the middle pickup provides the familiar articulation and chime associated with a Stratocaster single coil. At the bridge, the Alnico 2 humbucker offers greater punch and body for driven sounds, with enough definition to remain articulate under higher gain. Combined with the five-way selector and split-coil combinations in positions two and four, the HSH layout provides an exceptionally broad tonal palette spanning sparkling cleans, characteristic Strat-style intermediate tones and thicker humbucker-driven rock sounds.

Presented in essentially brand-new condition, this example has been very well preserved with only light signs of previous use throughout. The guitar has been professionally set up with D’Addario 10-46s and plays beautifully with comfortable low action, excellent intonation and stable tuning throughout. Combining classic alder construction with a comfortable Modern C neck, versatile HSH electronics and its distinctive Buttercream finish, the Player Stratocaster HSH is an especially practical take on the modern Stratocaster, retaining the familiar character and feel of Fender’s original design while offering considerably greater tonal versatility.
