Gibbon 1970s Jazz Bass Lawsuit Copy (Made in Japan)
Not much known about this brand, but Gibbon was allegedly a subsidiary brand of West Music in Japan in the 1970s. That's about all we know on the history so lets talk about the instrument because it's sick! Dual Telecaster style pickups (both original) give it a broad range of sounds; the neck pickup on its own is broad and doomy, the bridge chimey and hollow, blended together a range of sounds can be achieved. The tortoise shell guard is one of the best we've seen, you definitely won't be able to stop staring at it. Bound neck, hand carved finger rest and early 50s Fender style double barrell bridge design. Speaking of Fender, someone has painstakingly copied the Fender logo (amazing caligraphy to be honest) onto the headstock where the old logo used to be.
As was commonplace in the 60s and 70s Japanese factories, this instrument is almost entirely hand finished. This means the body contours, neck carve and edging are all hand carved. You can certainly see the craftmanship, no CNC machines present here. Just set up with 45100s with a nice comfortable action. We've hand cut a new bone nut and installed a new wiring loom and output jack to keep your signal strong. Comes with a gig bag that it doesn’t really fit in.
