1960s Guyatone LG-150T Reverse Offset Cream (MIJ)

A super fun, super quirky Guyatone from the late 1960s, the LG-150T was Japan's answer to the surf rock craze of the era, sporting deep, Mosrite style german carves, big curves and flowing lines and a jangly tremolo system with a Gibson style (24.75") scale length. A very stylish reverse offset indeed, the LG-150T looks like something out of a 60s cartoon with a comically long headstock and unique styling. More than just a fun looking instrument, it is packed with surfy single coil tones and great playability.

The maple neck is skinny and deep but with solid playability. The 24.75" rosewood fingerboard is nicely rounded with small white dot inlays, although interestingly absent are side dot markers on this model. The neck has been refretted in the past and the frets are solid with about 80% life left with some wear present. The nut has also been replaced at some stage with an aftermarket bone nut. All other hardware on the neck is original.

Clangy, twangy and epitomising the 60s surf sound, the single coils equipped in this bad boy have plenty of sparkle and top end for those looking for it. When driven hard, they break up with a lot of crunch and retained top end clarity and sharpness with a lot of body and low end as well. The pickups are reading healthy and the wiring harness is all original. Note the tone control works in reverse on this one - a common feature on 60s Japanese electrics.

Fully serviced and setup with 10-46s, it's playing nicely with a functional truss rod and accurate intonation from the roller bridge (very innovative for the 60s). Some wear and tear present on this instrument but all is honest and in keeping with the vintage of the instrument. Some chips, dings and dents present as well as cracking in the finish, although it is non-structural. Guitar is not equipped with its original tremolo arm.
