Made in the late 1970s by Hondo at the Matsumoku factory in Japan, this Hondo HP-1081 is an excellent offering from late 70s Matsumoku manufacturing and is most obviously inspired by the Danelectro Guitarlin, or Longhorn, which was in turn inspired by an instrument that dates back thousands of years, the ancient lyre! Hondo made the HP-1081 as a tribute to the great Danelectro instrument and produced it for a short time in the late 70s and early 80s, importing it into the USA by IMC (International Music Corporation) based in Fort Worth, Texas. Solid ash body in a dark walnut finish, it has a 3 piece maple neck and a rosewood fingerboard with a 24.75" scale length and a 41mm nut width.

A surprisingly versatile electric guitar, the single humbucker is equipped with 3 mini toggles allow you to engage either or both coils of the pickup, put the coils in or out of phase, and engage an active boost circuit in any of these settings. The active circuit has some serious guts to it, causing the guitar to enter overdrive very easily once engaged.

Brass hardware including a brass nut, 31 jumbo frets (yes, 31!) and an on-board 9V preamp, this is a seriously unique looking, sounding and feeling instrument and would definitely suit a buyer looking for something totally out there!

Professionally setup with 10-46s, the frets are sitting at about 70% with life left in them yet and the guitar has a slinky, low action with no dead spots. Comes with its super rare original hard shell case! (Missing handle).
